And thus I went forth, to dance in a parking structure dressed in glittered shoes and an ironic sweatshirt.
What would I call this look? I see it as a sort of homage to the stereotype of the Brooklyn bred hipster typically pictured with exaggerated headphones in hand, staring pensively on the subway. Though I am no hipster, and Los Angeles's public transportation is not quite New York's, the overall look works. The outfit is comprised of American Apparel disco pants and a Rad sweatshirt that hilariously reworks the Comme de Garcons logo. From the Alexander Wang x HM collaboration, to Chanel's joggers and track shoes this past fashion fall week, outfits with an athletic wear aesthetic have really come to the forefront in the past year. While the above outfit doesn't blatantly channel this vibe, the pairing of sneakers with fitted pants, and headphones and a rucksack subtly conjure a sportswear image without being overly obvious.
Happy New Year, bandits!
(lots of new things coming in 2015...)
P.S. The January Band Roll is now up! Glass Animals' Holiest has been on constant replay at my house and lately I've been listening to a lot of Childish Gambino. What are your picks for the month?
